One notable new feature (via
Romain Guy) that comes with the redesign is the ability to jump to the documentation for each enum value.
As far as I can tell, most of the previous functionality is intact. A few bugs have been spotted quickly by Redditors over on /r/AndroidDev, but they’ve been quickly resolved after being forwarded to the Android Developers website design team. A Google employee on the Android Developer Relations team
states that the redesign is just laying the foundations for more improvements to come such as better mobile web viewing, search, and performance.
Google I/O 2018 is
quickly approaching. At the event, we’ll learn a lot about the new platform features in
Android P. Most of the changes will interest developers, but there’s a lot in it for regular users as well. The coming weeks will be exciting for all fans of Android, so stay tuned!
#7 GTA6 to take place in Vice City, launch in 2022:
New reports suggest that the upcoming GTA 6 (Grand theft Auto 6) is likely to take place in two locations, namely Vice City and South America. With its predecessor GTA5 making huge waves in the gaming industry, critics are sure that the coming member of the GTA family will be the best game in the series so far.
Even before the release of any official statement, the GTA community of diehard fans and avid gamers has already taken up the task of revealing any information accessible to them. Reports say that the project of South America Mapping in the game is being referred to as ‘Project Americas’ at the headquarters of Rockstar games, but the players will go to the place only for a few missions.
Rumors also claim that the main list of protagonists in GTA6 (after introducing multiple protagonist storylines in GTA5) is likely to include a female player. This will be a first in the GTA series if it happens at all. The leakers in gaming communities have already said that the launch of GTA6 is likely to be around 2022, just as all the console companies will release new consoles.
GTA 6 might just be available on two generations of consoles at the same time. After the rise in popularity of GTA5 and a huge cash intake for the company, the company is bound to try really hard to ensure GTA6 is a superhit. The game comes second only after Red Dead Redemption (another famous series from the Rockstar Games).
Avid gamers are already very excited about the upcoming game with new rumors, information, and leaks coming out every day. But the game hasn’t been confirmed to be in development yet, which means that it obviously doesn’t have a release date just yet. However, a number of reports suggest that the game will hit the consoles in 2022.
#8 Gmail redesign: Here’s how to use the new features:
Gmail's new design brings in some extra features and integrations across different services like Keep, Calendar and more to help boost productivity.
Gmail’s new design overhaul brings in some extra features and integrations across different services like Keep, Calendar and more to help users boost their productivity. But before you get access to the new features, you will first need to activate the new Gmail.
How to enable new Gmail for yourself
It’s very simple to do this. If you want to enable new Gmail for yourself, just log into Gmail and click the gear icon on the right side. You will see a ‘Try the new Gmail’ option right at the top. Click that and you will see the new interface. In case you don’t like it and want to roll back to the old design, click the gear icon and choose ‘Go back to classic Gmail’ option.
In case you are wondering about what’s new inside the revamped Gmail, read on.
Organise emails without opening them
Revamped Gmail allows users to take some quick actions on emails like archive, delete, mark as read / unread and snooze without even opening them. All users have to do is hover their mouse cursor onto an email. It will get users all these quick options to choose from.
Use quick / suggested replies
Users can now reply to emails using quick / recommended phrases. Suggestions are based on the message you receive in your inbox. For example, when I received a story pitch over email, I was recommended a few phrases like “I am not interested,” “No, I didn’t get it” and “Yes, I am interested.” This feature has already been a part of Gmail app for Android and iOS.
Customise your inbox view
New Gmail allows users to customize their inbox view. So if users want, they can decide if they want to expand or shrink their inbox. All you have to do is click on the gear icon > Display density. Users can also expand the preview window by clicking on the hamburger menu located at the top left corner.
Use Google Calendar, Keep and more inside Gmail
Gmail now integrates other services like Calendar and Keep. So you can view your Calendar events, edit existing ones or create new ones without leaving Gmail. It provides users an option to create checklists and take notes using Google Keep.
#9 TWRP with data decryption now available for the Honor View 10 & Huawei P20/P20 Pro:
The start of all custom ROM development on Android usually begins with a custom recovery like TWRP. Without a custom recovery, it’s usually impossible to flash a ROM. Stock recovery checks to see if the software you’re installing is official, by way of signature verification. A custom recovery usually disables this, allowing you to just install whatever zip file you throw at it. Oftentimes there are issues at first, and on the Honor View, 10 and Huawei P20/P20 Pro custom recoveries like TWRP couldn’t decrypt the data partition on the device. This meant if you wanted to make any modifications to /data you had to format your entire phone to remove the encryption and flash a modified Magisk. Thanks to XDA Senior Member Pretoriano80, users of both devices will be able to keep their phones encrypted if they want to modify /data with a custom recovery. You can check out the download links below for your device!
#10 Amazon's Alexa Will Soon Be Teaching Your Child Manners:
Kids are some of the biggest fans of voice assistants, with some learning to talk to Alexa, Apple's Siri or Google's Assistant before they can form full sentences.
Amazon.com's Alexa has a little something to teach your kids about manners. After receiving feedback from some parents concerned about how voice assistants are affecting their kids' attitudes, the company updated Alexa to reward children who ask for things nicely.
Amazon heard from parents in comments on its products that they wanted a way to teach etiquette while using the voice assistant, the company said in a statement. The company then spoke to child development experts about the best way for Alexa to do that.
The answer they came up with was positive reinforcement. You won't hear Alexa ask, for example, "What's the magic word?" if a child doesn't say "please." Instead, it will thank a child for asking nicely if he or she remembers to slip in that oh-so-important "magic" word.
Children have become a key demographic for Amazon, Google, Apple and Microsoft as they move deeper into the home with smart speakers and strive to make their particular voice assistant a central part of the household.
#11 The internet’s core infrastructure was hacked to steal ethereum from a popular wallet service:
About $150,000 worth of ether was stolen from users of MyEtherWallet yesterday. The attackers apparently used an elaborate scheme to reroute internet traffic to target the popular wallet service.
The attackers exploited vulnerabilities in two basic internet protocols that route traffic around the world, the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) and the Domain Name System (DNS). Such attacks are common, but this incident was notable for the lengths the hackers went to, affecting services from Amazon, Google, and major internet service providers in the process. Security researcher Kevin Beaumont
called it the largest attack of its kind he has witnessed, highlighting the “fragility of internet security.”
Still, it’s not easy to hijack BGP to pull off an attack. “Mounting an attack of this scale requires access to BGP routers at major ISPs and real computing resource to deal with so much DNS traffic,” Beaumont wrote. In this case, it looks like the attackers were intercepting traffic bound for an Amazon Web Services feature called Route 53. Amazon said in a statement to
Ars Technica that its systems weren’t compromised and that the problem originated from an internet service provider making fraudulent traffic announcements. Research provider Internet Intelligence identified the ISP as eNet, in Ohio. When contacted, the firm said it couldn’t comment on an “ongoing investigation.” Beaumont’s analysis also shows that servers hosted by Equinix in Chicago were involved in the attack. Equinix told
Ars Technica that it didn’t control the servers, which belonged to a customer.
MyEtherWallet chief executive Kosala Hemachandra urged his users to use an offline version of the wallet or a hardware wallet. “This is an ongoing battle that requires us all to stick together,” he said in a statement. That’s cold comfort for users of MEW who lost funds in the attack. A user who goes by scrap4crap on Reddit said 20 ETH was lost in the attack, worth about $14,000 at yesterday’s prices. “Going to kill me now,”
the user-declared.
#12 ISRO successfully launches INRSS-1I navigation satellite:
PSLV-C41/IRNSS-1I Mission blasted off at 4.04 am from the first launch pad at the Sathish Dhawan Space Centre. It was a normal lift-off, ISRO officials said.
The Indian Space Research Organisation’s navigation satellite INRSS-1I was launched Thursday by PSLV-C41 from the spaceport here and successfully placed in the designated orbit. PSLV-C41/IRNSS-1I Mission blasted off at 4.04 am from the first launch pad at the Sathish Dhawan Space Centre. It was a normal lift-off, ISRO officials said.
The workhorse, PSLV, injected the satellite into orbit 19 minutes after lift-off from the Sathish Dhawan Space Centre here.
ISRO Chairman K Sivan described the mission as a success and congratulated the scientists behind it. He said IRNSS-1I was successfully placed in the designated orbit.
IRNSS-1I is expected to replace IRNSS-1A, the first of the seven navigation satellites, that was rendered ineffective after its three rubidium atomic clocks failed. The seven satellites are part of the NavIC navigation satellite constellation.
The launch is ISRO’s second attempt at sending a replacement satellite.
The previous mission of a PSLV carrying IRNSS-1H in August last year failed after the heat shield covering the satellite failed to separate.
The IRNSS-1I mission takes place two weeks after the space agency launched GSAT-6A on board GSLV Mk-II. Though the rocket placed GSAT-6A in orbit, the ISRO lost communication with the satellite within two days.
