A.S.I.F.A - Living In Darkness

                    A.S.I.F.A

We are living in darker times and these are turning more darker with each passing day. The killing of children in conflict zones like Kashmir, Palestine, Syria, Afghanistan is continuing with no stop to these. From 2008 onwards in Kashmir we have seen in popular uprisings, how children have been killed and blinded by state-backed forces. Year after year, we are losing innocent children for no fault of their own.  Thousands of children have become victims of these brutal conflicts. Children have also been subjected to sexual exploitation and sexual harassment around the world. These heinous crimes show how much our society has degraded. With so much progress on a materialistic level, but morally, the society is going downside.
Let me tell you a story. Once upon a time, somewhere in the dark forest, between the tall bladder-brown trees that won’t even let the light touch the ground, a child wailed and cried as loudly as she could. She ran for her life, howled, tried to escape from the monster running after her. Her tiny feet and bleak voice ultimately gave up. She was groped from behind, her mouth was forcefully shut and her body stopped responding in shock. Her arms were twisted, she had fatal wounds and then, she was kidnapped. She was sedated. She was raped, repeatedly. She was murdered. She was thrown between the bushes. She was just eight-years-old. She was a child. She was a Muslim.
India is a country where a rape takes place just as often as a politician makes a ridiculous, misogynistic remark about the women in this country, which by the way, might be happening as we speak.
The internet is buzzing with the news of Asifa Bano, getting raped and murdered in Rasana village near Kathua in Jammu & Kashmir. Now, whenever a rape happens anywhere in this country, the instant reaction of the citizens is outrage, angst, shock, vengeance and well, to pay condolences to the victim who went through the heinous crime and couldn’t survive.

Sadly, that’s not the only thing that’s happening in this particular case.

Is India The Country That Supports Rapist & Murderers?
I am going to put it in simple words here, without twisting it any further. Asifa belonged to a Muslim tribe, Bakherwal, who used to live in Rasana village near Kathua, which is a Hindu-dominated village. According to her father, Muhammad Yusuf Pujwala her rape and murder were crucially planned and executed with the sole purpose to dislodge the tribal community from the village. She was kidnapped and hidden in a prayer hall, where, she was raped and sedated multiple times. Police have arrested eight men, including a retired government official, four police officers and a juvenile who were all involved in this rape and murder case. Police also said that she was killed in a Hindu temple and that the temple’s custodian, Sanji Ram plotted her death as a way to torment the Bakherwals.
The sad thing here is that there are activists who are now protesting the arrest of the accused, claiming that the reports might have been distorted, considering the officials involved to investigate the case are Muslims too.

“They are against our religion,” Bimla Devi, a protester, told the New York Times. She said that if the accused men weren’t freed, “we will burn ourselves.”

Asifa was murdered inside a temple, where Hindus pray to their Gods and now, there are marches by Hindus along with two BJP ministers where people are blind, mind-numbingly supporting the accused and screaming slogans of “Jai Shri Ram.”
The Game Of Hypocrisy
Can you believe that it’s the same country that went berserk after Nirbhaya’s rape case in 2012? Another case surfacing is the Unnao gangrape where a woman in Uttar Pradesh
accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and his accomplice of gang-raping her. When she tried attempting suicide outside Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s house, her father was taken into custody and was allegedly beaten. He later succumbed to injuries. Both these incidents are appalling and are crimes against humanity more than anything else.
India appears to be a country of hypocrites and our spirits seem to have died. Asifa's rape and murder case is also a murder of our conscience, collectively. Just because this little girl was a Muslim, the Hindu activists who are supporting the accused seem to have forgotten that she was a human being too. Hell, she was a kid who probably didn’t even understand what a rape means, what a murder means. Her innocence was taken advantage and hence, she succumbed her last breath. You and I can’t even begin to understand the struggles she must have gone through.
The Rape Country
In schools, they teach 8-year-old kids like Asifa that India is a secular country. But is it really? Every single day we read about a rape in some or the other part of our country, and while some of these cases come to light, some are completely ignored. BJP ruled states Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana have given death sentence to rapists in the past but for some odd reason is choosing to stay silent on this issue, even when two of its ministers participated in the rallies that supported the accused. Why JUST WHY?
After this case, the diminishing spirits of empathy and humankind in our country are silently killing our hopes. It’s funny how religion has and will always overpower our morals. Asifa’s mother described her as a “chirping bird” who ran like a deer. “She was the center of our universe,” her mother said. She was her daughter. She was India’s daughter too. With her murder, humanity has died too.
"Asifa's Brutal Rape And Murder Is A Wakeup Call If We Don't Act Now, Let's Declare Humanity Dead!"
